About Chelsea

Chelsea Carlson is an award-winning singer/songwriter and musician, music teacher, actor, and director based in Brick, NJ.  With nearly twenty years experience, Chelsea's musical journey has seen her attend Berklee College of Music, win Top New Female Act at the Jersey Acoustic Music Awards, and have her debut album "The Broken Road" premiere in Songwriting Magazine.  She has played at over 100 venues and festivals across eight states including the Hard Rock Cafe, Bitter End, Wonder Bar, and more.  A lover of many types of music, Chelsea's own original sound combines the emotion of alternative, soul of rock, storytelling of folk, and hooks of pop music.  Her latest solo work, "A Cozy Christmas" was released in December 2020 and she has new original music in the works.

Chelsea's love of performance extends to theater as well.  She is the Vice President and Director of Music & Media for the Artist Collective Troupe, an Ocean County-based theater company dedicated to supporting the arts throughout the Jersey Shore.  With ACT, Chelsea has music directed "Into the Woods," "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," "Little Women," and more, as well as assistant directed "Elf," "Mary Poppins," and "The Addams Family."  Chelsea has also served as the music director for the New Jersey Renaissance Faire since 2022, and has been a cast member at the faire since 2016.  Some of Chelsea's favorite theatrical roles include Linda (The Wedding Singer), Miss Carter (It's a Wonderful Life), and Maid Marian (NJRF).

In addition to her solo music, Chelsea is a member of Bardy Pardy, a folk trio that primarily performs at renaissance faires along the east coast.  Bardy Pardy's first album was released in 2022 and they have recently started pre-production for their followup.  The trio has been nominated for multiple awards and has been making a name for themselves on the local circuit since 2017.

 

Chelsea also loves opening up the world of music and performance to the next generation, and has enjoyed her "day job" of teaching music since 2010.  In addition to teaching private lessons in voice, guitar, piano, bass, and ukulele, Chelsea currently teaches the Monday rock band class at Red House Music Studio in Point Pleasant and preschool music at Long Valley Christian Nursery School.

In 2022, Chelsea was given the Legion of Honor Award in recognition of her volunteer and humanitarian efforts.  Chelsea always strives to take her love of music and give back with it.  She has performed at and organized several benefit concerts and events for organizations such as Make-A-Wish New Jersey, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Relay for Life, Voices for Ukraine, Habitat for Humanity, and more.  She has additionally released music and donated funds to the American Red Cross (Hurricane Sandy Relief), World Wildlife Foundation (Australian Wildfire Relief), Hope's Promise Equine Therapy Farm, and more.   

 

When she is not performing, you can find Chelsea binge-reading fantasy books, pouring over travel websites, playing with her cats, re-watching "Avatar: The Last Airbender" for the hundredth time, and trying (and failing) to learn German.
